Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.23 Billion for Saturday; New Jersey Ticket Nets $1 Million

The Powerball jackpot, surpassing the billion-dollar mark, continues its ascent, while New Jersey welcomes a newly minted millionaire.

With no jackpot winner on Wednesday night, the Powerball prize pool is projected to soar to an estimated $1.23 billion, offering a cash option of $595.1 million for Saturday night’s draw, as detailed on the official Powerball website. This staggering amount marks the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history and the eighth-largest in the annals of U.S. lottery.

Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, remarked, “As the jackpot swells, so does the probability of someone winning.” Anticipating increased participation, he noted the likelihood of heightened coverage of number combinations in Saturday’s draw.

The last jackpot victory occurred on January 1st, when a fortunate lottery player in Michigan claimed the $842.4 million prize.

Nine New Millionaires

Though the jackpot remains unclaimed, there are nine fortunate lottery players celebrating newfound wealth. Tickets sold in New Jersey, California (2), Georgia, Massachusetts (2), Maryland, South Carolina, and Washington matched the five white balls to secure million-dollar prizes. While all tickets secured $1 million, the California tickets surpassed this figure due to the state’s method of calculating non-jackpot prizes based on actual sales, with each ticket winning $1,622,808.
