The ‘Enthusiast-focused’ 2024 Subaru WRX TR is set to be unveiled next week.

The 2024 Subaru WRX has been missing a serious performance variant, which has felt a bit unusual for fans. Subaru used to offer the STI version with more power and notable chassis upgrades for enthusiasts who sought those enhancements and could afford them. However, there’s hope on the horizon with the upcoming 2024 WRX TR.

Subaru has provided limited information so far, including the model name, a teaser image, and a reveal date. The teaser photo reveals distinctive wheels and what appear to be beefier Brembo brakes, possibly featuring additional caliper pistons. Subaru has described this model as “enthusiast-focused,” suggesting that other improvements, likely suspension tweaks, will complement the brake upgrades.

Longtime WRX enthusiasts may recognize the TR designation from its introduction in the 2006 model year as the “Tuner Ready” trim. Back then, it essentially meant a more affordable WRX version with some amenities removed to hit a lower price point. Given the brake upgrades, it’s likely that this new TR will offer more than it takes away, possibly without a significant price increase over the base WRX.

The 'Enthusiast-focused' 2024

If the TR remains cost-conscious, it probably won’t receive a substantial power boost like the Prodrive prototype tested a few months ago. Enhanced limited-slip differentials, similar to those found in the previous STI models, are also unlikely. However, Subaru may still have some surprises in store. There might be some styling updates, but it appears that the distinctive black plastic fenders will continue.

We’ll have all the details soon, as the official unveiling is scheduled for October 7th at Subiefest Florida. If you’re in the area, you can see it in person, and if not, be sure to visit Autoblog on that day for the full scoop.
